Sergeant Dave Helgran
USMC

BIO:

I am Sgt Dave Helgran of the world’s finest fighting force, the United States Marine Corps. I have been to Iraq twice, and would go again in a heartbeat. I’ve had a lot of fun doing what I do, and I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. I have been fighting my entire life, and love learning new skills. The USMC, and Brazilian Jui-Jitsu training as well as some wrestling and Thai Kickboxing make up a few of the major fighting styles I have adapted into my own methods. A lot of what I know I have learned through experience, and I use it simply because it works. I carry a Brown Belt (hopefully Black soon) in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program(MCMAP) and a White Belt (because formal training is expensive and time consuming) in Brazilian Jui Jitsu and Thai Kickboxing. I have trained under Leo Dalla (BJJ Black Belt), Chad Lebrun (BJJ Blackbelt under Renzo Gracie), and Milo Esquivel (MCMAP Blackbelt Instructor). I do intend to further my BJJ as soon as my Marine Corps schedule allows me to do so. To be clear:

I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF AN EXPERT. I AM MERELY A GUY THAT LOVES FIGHT TRAINING AND TAKES EVERY POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO.

That being said, I can only teach you what I know. Maybe you can teach me some things as well. The one thing I promise is not to give up on anyone, and to push myself and anyone I train with to their absolute limits. In the Marine Corps, I have often been told “practice like you play” or “train like you fight”, and that is the motto I take to every training experience. If you don’t give it your all here, you wont there.

Which of course leads me to something you will hear me say quite often:

Train smart. Fight Smart. Fight to win.

Just before one of hundreds of convoys that summer.                                                                                                                                                                                                   Nothing matches Marine camraderie, but Fight Training comes close.

Myself w/former WWE Hardcore Champion and Renown MMA fighter Steve Blackman                                                                    Underwater Squats at the Hotel on Marine Corps Travel                                                         With UFC’s Ultimate Fighter Amir Sodallah (the blackeye is from BJJ the day before)

And it’s not always about fighting with hands and feet…

I’m still a US Marine, and I’ll shoot if I have the option 🙂
